Whats worse is that no easy fix has been found yet to overcome this nasty virus. Once it hits a computer, it hijacks and encrypts your files and important data. A screen then pops up asking for ransom in bitcoins within a certain time in order for you to be able to get access back into your computer. Bitcoins is an untraceable currency that makes it difficult to track the hackers. The ransom price sometimes increases as the countdown begins.
If no payment has been made, your files are destroyed. Although its highly discouraged to pay the ransom to stop this, many have had no choice but to pay it.
