WORLD BACK UP DAY

March 30, 2019 by Murji Rabadia

March 31st is a reminder to back up all your important files to avoid losing them. It could be important pictures of your family or business files. I can’t stress on the importance of backing up all your important files. Years of hard work or memories that could be lost within seconds due to malware/virus attacks or disaster like floods and fire.

The loss of the files and re-doing all the work again could cost more than backing up your files. The beauty about backing up is that it can be tailored to your needs and your budget.

To make a decision, you need to factor in the type of data you are backing, the importance of it, the ease of accessing the information when needed, on your phone or tablet as well and the ease of recovering the data.

Data space is fairly cheap so if you have to decide on what to back up, it may make sense to back up everything as the price difference may not be much. Don’t forget to factor the space needed for the applications of your files.

You can opt for the traditional methods of backups like using flash drives (also known as jump drive, pen drive or thumb drive) or other external hard drives. These are low cost options and they are available in various sizes. It’s a good option and better than no backup but also keep in mind that they can be lost, stolen or damaged in case of disasters like fire or flooding.

Cloud backup is very commonly used today where your information is stored online such that it can be accessed from anywhere as long as you have internet access. This eliminates the need to carry drives with you when traveling. The data stored in the cloud is encrypted for security against hacks, viruses and malware. There is a yearly fee for this and the amount is based on the space needed.

If your files are of great importance, choosing both an external drive and a cloud backup is the safest option.

I hope this information is helpful to you. If you have any questions, please contact me at (561) 880‐5678 or email help@aumcomputers.net
